Of course, we know that would most probably not be the case. The majority of injured kittens in shelters are euthanized. But Alex, feeling like he was doing what he was supposed to, dropped her off. Later, after discovering what her probable fate would be, he tried to get her back, but due to her injury she could only be released to a New Hope Rescue group.
And so now we introduce the kitten we call Lykka! Old Norse for "luck", Lykka is the lucky kitten so many people banded together to help! Her leg injury was so severe that it required amputation. She was finally released today to a special foster home where she will recover until she is old enough to be adopted.
Thank you to the city of cat folk that organized to help this little kitten. Alex the incredible Flatbush neighbor, Ann Simkins of Small World Pet Care, Anne Levin of Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition, Dr. Kate Hallquest and all the wonderful staff of Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group.
